A guide told us that the ice advances a whopping 3m a day. Every so often as we watched, a seemingly small snowball of ice would break off and fall into the glacier, followed by a giant thunderclap-like sound a second or two later. Turns out those "small snowballs" weren't actually so tiny after all...
