  • Day 100. October 16, 2010. Just had to post this out of order because it's day 100! This was on a climbing trip to Castle Rock, just southwest of Palo Alto.<br /> <br /> Posting takes time, but I'll be caught up soon! There's such a huge backlog of RAWs just sitting on my hard drive right now waiting to be edited and posted.<br /> <br /> EF 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 @ 10mm, f/6.3. 1/320s. ISO 320. Grad ND-0.6, and polarizer filter used.
  • Day 45. August 22, 2010. This was at the Schulman Grove, halfway down. Along with the Patriarch Grove slightly higher up the mountain, these bristlecone pine forests have some of the oldest trees in the world. The Methuselah Grove within the Schulman grove contains the Methuselah Tree, which has been dated at over 4000 years.<br /> <br /> EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS @ 24mm, f/11. 1/200s. ISO 100.

  • Day 44. August 21, 2010. Standing on Barcroft Peak, looking at White Mountain Peak. Gusts topping out over 50mph. 13,040 ft. A little winded after hiking up this thing after having slept at Barcroft Research Station at 12,470ft, and doing badly acclimatizing while going through a cold and continuing nosebleeds. The views were spectacular. And the bluest skies I've ever seen.<br /> <br /> EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 @ 10mm, f/7.1. 1/500. ISO 100.

  • Day 43. August 20, 2010. The most spectacular sunset I have ever witnessed over land. And I had my camera and tripod with me. :)<br /> <br /> EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 @ 10mm, f/9.0. 1/60. ISO 160.
  • Day 28. August 6, 2010. On the way up to Half Moon Bay, we passed by Crystal Springs Reservoir, and the evening fog was a perfect balance between thin enough to let streaks of light through, and thick enough to make interesting patterns in the distance. Unfortunately, there wasn't a stopping are on the near side of the bridge, but we stopped on the far side and did some trespassing to get this angle. A little tricky to expose this correctly since the sky's still pretty bright low on the horizon. In post-processing, I removed the four power lines, added contrast to the sky, and brightened the foreground.<br /> <br /> (Update: Also, I just realized. This could totally be an ad for quite a few of the basic composition principles at work. Rule of Thirds, breaking the horizon, etc)<br /> <br /> (Update 2: Forgot to mention that I used a circular polarizer for this to have more control over the reflections off of the water.)<br /> <br /> 17-55mm f/2.8 IS lens @ 38mm. f/8.0. 1/125. ISO 200.
