  • Day 9. July 17, 2010. Rock on the beach at Andrew Molera State Park. My first time using a spiffy new ND-1.8 filter, and it was quite the success. I wanted a longer exposure to get a smooth fog-like surface to the water, so I stopped down to f/16 at ISO 100 for a 1 second exposure in early evening light. I love Big Sur.<br /> <br /> 17-55mm f/2.8 IS @ 18mm. f/16. 1s. ISO 100. ND-1.8 filter.

  • Day 14. July 22, 2010. Upon arriving home today, I noticed a sedentary bee on my car's windshield. Out came the camera and the 100mm macro, and I managed to get about 30 shots before the bee finally flew away. The yellow and green in the background is from the reflected sunlight filtered through a row of trees by the driveway. I rather like the effect.<br /> <br /> 100mm f/2.8L IS Macro. f/8.0. 1/13. ISO 800.
  • Day 18. July 26, 2010. The footbridge over the 101 near Oregon Expressway. I was out here one night a while back (to smash pumpkins) and noted to myself that this would be a great place for night photography. So here I am, months later, taking advantage of the full moon to get some night traffic shots.<br /> <br /> 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 @ 16mm. f/4.0. 10s. ISO 100.
  • Day 28. August 6, 2010. On the way up to Half Moon Bay, we passed by Crystal Springs Reservoir, and the evening fog was a perfect balance between thin enough to let streaks of light through, and thick enough to make interesting patterns in the distance. Unfortunately, there wasn't a stopping are on the near side of the bridge, but we stopped on the far side and did some trespassing to get this angle. A little tricky to expose this correctly since the sky's still pretty bright low on the horizon. In post-processing, I removed the four power lines, added contrast to the sky, and brightened the foreground.<br /> <br /> (Update: Also, I just realized. This could totally be an ad for quite a few of the basic composition principles at work. Rule of Thirds, breaking the horizon, etc)<br /> <br /> (Update 2: Forgot to mention that I used a circular polarizer for this to have more control over the reflections off of the water.)<br /> <br /> 17-55mm f/2.8 IS lens @ 38mm. f/8.0. 1/125. ISO 200.
